The Self Love

Many people repeat their affirmations in the morning to get a boost of self-love for the rest of their day. If at any point you feel yourself lagging in self-love during the day, go ahead and repeat them again. Don’t worry about overdoing it—you’re in no danger of developingtoo much self-love. For so many of us, it’s easy to show kindness, love, and compassion to others—and a totally different story when it comes being as lovely when we talk to ourselves. You don’t care how many Valentine’s Days go by with you being single because you find love and happiness in so many other things.
Contrary to popular belief, self-love isn’t just a blind adoration of our strengths, it’s also an embrace of our weaknesses and shadows. Despite all of those tweets and posts that simply say, “Stop comparing yourself to others,” and “Be kind to yourself,” it’s obviously not that simple. It takes time to heal, and this gradual process is not always evident right away. Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations is another great podcast if you’re looking to fill up your self-love tank. One of the greatest take-aways from almost all of her guests is the need to love and value yourself in order to accomplish great life feats. Her guests come from all walks of life, and through sharing their experiences and insights, we develop understanding and empathy as we chew on all that hearty soul food being dished up!



When we are mindful, or in a state of non-judgmental awareness, we are unable to get lost in the process of over-identification or giving in to our inner critic, also known as negative thoughts. Indecisive because they want to seek approval or they want people to react to their choices. In short, they crave the attention and respect of others. Plus, you cannot achieve anything substantial in the outer world without fixing your inner world.
Self-esteem plays a huge role in your mental health. By having a great level of self-esteem, you’ll be less likely to suffer from loneliness, drug or alcohol abuse, or anxiety. Without being flattering, good friends also constantly keep in mind certain things we’re getting right.

I’ve seen my life increase as far as positivity goes. I know that my interactions with others have increased for the better…. To love yourself, to be yourself, to better yourself. Toxic people cause us to feel wretched and significantly lower the quality of our daily lives. Learning to distance yourself those who hinder your self-growth is a difficult, but absolutely necessary step on your journey of healing. To heal ourselves, it’s vital for us to consciously change our relationships with ourselves, and treat ourselves with compassion and consideration just as we would with a best friend. Work on reminding yourself that you need care and look for things that you can do to show kindness to yourself, no matter how small they may be. Spend some time doing something that you enjoy. The ability to create boundaries is often established early in life.

Coming down hard on yourself after a misstep is like fighting the fire department when your house is on fire. It adds insult to injury and reduces your chances of rebounding and ultimately success. In the aftermath of a career setback—such as a missed promotion, failure to meet a critical deadline or job loss—self-condemnation is the real career blocker, not the setback. Substituting loving-kindness for self-judgment motivates you to get back in the saddle.
If an interaction feels icky, a line has been crossed. Take that as a sign that you need to set a boundary. Immerse yourself within the company of uplifting people; people who serve you in the highest good.
If you change your attitude and enough of yourself, maybe someone might love you. If you work hard enough and want it badly enough maybe you will land some dream job which pays you enough to afford both rent and food and a bit of financial security. If you just play by the “rules” and adapt to a brutal capitalist system while changing what colour lipstick you wear and your “negative” thought patterns, your life will become easier and better. Offering solutions to these feelings of disconnection and discontent such as looking “inwards” and changing how you behave is reductionist, over-simplistic, and problematic. These positive attitude advocates remind me of WINZ case-workers who would phone, without warning, to grill me about what jobs I had applied for, and how many.

Speak to yourself with kindness and the clouds will clear, you deserve to shine. You are perfect the way you are, you don’t need to change, but you can grow if desired. In other words, repeating mantras are proven to calm your mind.
Keep reading to learn the reasons why it is so critical to embrace self-love for increased happiness in your life. At the same time, you feel an obligation to be there for your kids, your spouse, and your best friend, who is going through a lot.
